👋  Hi, I'm Matt

I'm a software engineer who tends to solve community problems.

About me

Originally from Seattle, I moved to the Twin Cities over a decade ago. Pizza, bicycling, public transit, and coffee shops are a few of my favorite things. I love connecting people and am active in the local tech community. Friends joke that after living in Minnesota for 6 months, I knew more people than they did, and they grew up here.
Professionally, I'm a software engineer and entrepreneur. I started my career as a data analyst before teaching myself to code and transitioning into software development. My entrepreneurial pursuits include founding a real-time transit app and an anonymous job matching service.
I'm perpetually thinking up new projects and business ideas, then experimenting to see if they've got potential. This led me to form a community for less-experienced software engineers and an event series to help Minnesotans make new friends.
I'm passionate about making the tech community more welcoming and inclusive. I love helping people find the career paths and jobs that fit them best. I believe life is too short to have a job you don't love. I have a strong bias for action and am motivated by impact - there's nothing more validating than hearing someone appreciates my work.
In terms of tech, I'm most experienced with Ruby/Rails, React, and Javascript/Typescript, but am open to and interested in branching out. I love tools like Tailwind that make the developer experience better. And I still appreciate a good spreadsheet.
